Northern Spain

In November 2004 I went to the really nice town of León in northern Spain, to visit the 3rd European Conference on Severe Storms. During an afternoon, I saw the chance to leave for a couple of hours with some German/Austrian friends by car to find snow in the mountains just 30-45 minutes north of León, in the Picos de Europa (Cordillera Cantabrica) mountain range. Upon arriving there, autumn colours greeted us, and as we ascended the raindrops turned to snowflakes (which made these Germans go completely WILD, the weirdos!) Now what made me wild were the incredible snowstorms that raged up there, including whirls reminding of dust devils! Certainly a very enervating afternoon! Be sure to check the snowstorm movie in the Movie Gallery.
